This Privacy Policy applies to the CroFileInfo macOS application, which may appear as “CroFile” on your device (the “App”). The App lets you inspect basic file information, Finder metadata, image and video metadata, embedded GPS coordinates, and file checksums for files you choose.
## 1. Privacy at a Glance
- The App does not require registration or an account.
- The App does not include advertising, user tracking, third-party analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs.
- The App does not upload selected files, file contents, file paths, metadata, GPS coordinates, or checksums to the developer’s servers.
- File analysis is performed locally on your Mac.
- The App stores only preferences such as language and menu bar item visibility on your device.
- When you view a map for embedded GPS coordinates, Apple’s map services may process information needed to provide the map.
## 2. Information Processed by the App
### 2.1 Files You Choose and File Information
After you choose a file using the file picker, drop area, or menu bar item, the App reads information necessary to provide the requested features, including:
- File name, file path, type, size, and dates;
- Finder metadata, such as source information, lock status, and last-opened time;
- EXIF, QuickTime, and other media metadata contained in images or videos;
- GPS coordinates already embedded in the file, if any; and
- File contents as needed to calculate MD5, SHA-1, and SHA-256 checksums.
Depending on the file you choose, this information may contain content that can identify you or another person. The App processes this information locally, and the developer does not receive it.
### 2.2 Local Preferences
The App uses macOS local preferences to store your selected interface language and whether the menu bar item is shown. These settings are not uploaded to the developer’s servers and are not used for advertising, analytics, or tracking.
### 2.3 Clipboard
The App writes an individual file value or a complete file report to the macOS system clipboard only when you click a copy button. Clipboard content is managed by macOS and may be available to other apps that you allow to access the clipboard. You can replace it by copying other content.
## 3. File Permission and Local Processing
The App runs in the macOS App Sandbox. It accesses a file only after you choose or drop that file into the App, using the system-granted “User Selected File (Read Only)” permission. The App does not modify a selected file or create or save a copy of it.
File reports and analysis results are held in memory only as needed for the current inspection. The App does not save them as inspection history after you close the corresponding file detail window or quit the App.
## 4. GPS and Apple Maps
The App does not request or read your Mac’s current location. It reads and displays GPS coordinates only when they are already embedded in an image or video that you choose.
When the App uses Apple MapKit to display a map, or opens Apple Maps after you click “Open in Maps,” Apple may process the coordinates and network or device information needed to provide its map services under Apple’s privacy policy. The developer does not receive your coordinates or file contents from Apple. For more information, see [Apple’s Privacy Policy](https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/en-ww/).
## 5. Data Collection, Use, Sharing, and Tracking
The developer does not collect your personal information, file information, or usage data through the App or the developer’s servers. The App does not:
- Sell or rent personal information;
- Use personal information for advertising or marketing;
- Track you across apps, websites, or services; or
- Provide data to advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics services.
Apple Maps is a system service that you choose to use, and Apple is responsible for its data handling as described in Section 4.
## 6. Retention and Deletion
Because the developer does not collect or upload your data, the developer has no server-side user data to access, share, correct, or delete.
- File reports: Held in memory only during the current inspection and not saved as history. Close the detail window or quit the App to end the processing.
- Clipboard content: Managed by macOS. Copy other content to replace it.
- Local preferences: Remain on your Mac until you change or reset the relevant settings, or remove the App’s local data using the options provided by macOS.
## 7. Data Security
The App limits access through the macOS App Sandbox, user-initiated file selection, and read-only file permission. Although we use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the App’s functionality, no device or software environment can be guaranteed to be absolutely secure. Choose only files that you are authorized to inspect, and protect your Mac and system account.
## 8. Children’s Privacy
The App is a general-purpose file utility and is not specifically directed to children. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the App does not transmit user data to the developer’s servers, the developer does not create server-side profiles of children.
## 9. Your Choices and Rights
You may choose not to open or drop any file into the App, not to use the copy buttons, not to use the map display or “Open in Maps” feature, and to change local preferences at any time. Because the App has no accounts and the developer does not hold server-side user data, there is no separate online data access or deletion portal. Contact us below if you have questions about your privacy rights or this policy.
## 10. Changes to This Policy
If a future version adds features that change how data is handled, we will update this Privacy Policy, its effective date, and the App Privacy information in App Store Connect. We will provide appropriate notice of material changes.
